How Mold Analyzer Detects Mold

An overview of how Mold Analyzer uses specialized chemistry and visual or digital analysis to deliver fast, reliable mold detection in real-world environments.

Mold Analyzer by Micro-Pak® combines specialized chemistry with optical sensing to deliver fast, reliable mold detection directly at the point of need. Designed for accuracy, consistency, and real-world use, the system provides clear results in minutes without the delays of traditional lab testing.

The Science Behind Detection

At the core of Mold Analyzer is the Test Cassette. Each Test Cassette contains precisely controlled reagents engineered to react when mold-related biological activity is present. When a surface sample is introduced, these reagents trigger a measurable response that reveals mold activity on the tested area.

This self-contained system is calibrated to deliver consistent, repeatable performance across a wide range of environments and materials, supporting reliable testing in homes, commercial buildings, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and global supply-chain settings.

From Sample to Result

Testing with Mold Analyzer follows a simple, standardized workflow:

  1. A surface sample is collected using the provided swab and placed into the sample tube.

  2. Three drops from the sample tube are applied to the Test Cassette.

  3. Results appear in minutes directly on the Test Cassette or digitally through the Reader and Mobile App when used together.

No shipping. No lab processing. Just clear results when and where they’re needed.

Visual Detection and Line Intensity

Each Test Cassette provides clear visual feedback using a control line and a test line. A single visible line indicates a negative result. A double line indicates that mold activity has been detected.

When reading results visually, the intensity of the test line offers additional insight into mold activity relative to the control line:

  • If the test line is darker than the control line, mold activity is likely at a medium level or higher.

  • If the test line is similar in intensity to the control line, mold activity is likely low to medium.

  • If the test line is lighter than the control line, mold activity is likely low.

  • If the test line is barely visible, mold activity is likely at a very trace level.

This guidance is generally reliable. However, some mold species may react more strongly or weakly within the assay, meaning line intensity may not always directly correlate to exact mold levels.

Reader-Based Analysis for Added Precision

For users who require greater precision, traceability, and documentation, the Reader and Mobile App provide an enhanced testing experience. The Reader objectively measures the Test Cassette response, while the Mobile App records results, stores test history, and enables reporting and data export.

This digital workflow supports repeat testing, audits, compliance reporting, and multi-site monitoring, making Mold Analyzer suitable for both everyday testing and professional inspection programs.

Built for Real-World Conditions

Mold Analyzer has been validated through extensive research and real-world field testing across diverse environments and materials. While it does not replace full laboratory culturing or species-level identification, it delivers fast, on-site insights that help users make informed decisions quickly.

From early detection to ongoing monitoring, Mold Analyzer brings science-backed mold detection into real-life workflows.
